Welcome to Castell Rednek, our creek-side lodge and tactical retreat carved out of a 100 year old dairy barn. The legacy of this barn started with the Byers Dairy in the 1920s and it is now utilized by the sixth generation of the Herschel Byers family. The restoration of The Barn at Byers’ Dairy was a labor of love over 10 years in the making and made possible by some very talented friends and family. One of the highlights of The Castell is a rustic sports bar constructed using an exterior barn wall, a rustic patina tin ceiling, and even has the original Warm Morning stove that heated the former farm house for over 50 years. It features a 65” high definition TV, ice cold beer on tap, a fully stocked whiskey bar and humidor, and a classic popcorn machine.
The rest of The Castell is packed with modern amenities. The galley kitchen features new stainless steel appliances, gas stove, cast iron pans, refrigerator, oven, and dishwasher, as well as a fully stocked pantry and cooking utensils. The lodge room is highlighted by hardwood beams and shiplap siding from the original 1918 construction, but also features live-edge bar tops with seating for 12 as well as a sofa and loveseat.
The sleeping quarters consists of a main bedroom and a bunk room. The main bedroom features a king size bed, TV, and writing desk, while the bunk room has full and twin beds as well as two twin top bunks for the kids. The utility/bathroom suite consists of a washer and gas dryer, shower/tub combo, toilet, bathroom vanity, and fully stocked medicine cabinet. The Castell has central heating and air conditioning managed by a Nest learning thermostat, Nest Protect smoke and carbon monoxide sensors, and a Ring security system.
As good as the inside of The Castell is, the outside is what brings you in. The barn and silo sit about 40 yards from Spring Creek. The 1,000 square foot wraparound deck features a covered 12’ x 36’ dining room with a porch swing and two 85” TVs. Between the barn and the creek is a concrete slab that was used to feed cattle when it was a working dairy. The slab now hosts a covered outdoor Texas-style Ice House complete with a 24” x 48” wood smoker, 48” Blackstone griddle, propane burner, sink and prep area, along with cast iron pans and cooking utensils. Outside of the kitchen is a gravel patio with fire pit and seating area to enjoy those cool Kansas nights. Nestled between the barn/silo and creek is a short distance shooting range featuring 20 steel targets for pistol and .22 rim fire from 10 to 60 yards . There is also a medium distance rifle range with KYL steel targets at 400, 225, and 100 yards. The latest additional to The Castell is a shotgun range that features a 5-stand course with six Atlas traps and a wobble trap range with a Atlas tri-axis wobble trap.
